About the Program

Overview

VIPA-Piano 2020 is moving again with an outstanding program directed by prestigious pianist and pedagogue Juan Lago, who will be joined by well-known pianists/pedagogues like Norma Fisher, Pavel Nersessian, Graham Scott, Hae-Young Kim, Chun Chieh Yen and Belén Navarro. 

VIPA 2020 Piano Program will be held between July 6 and 11 at the facilities of the “José Iturbi” Conservatory in Valencia, located at Avenida de Baleares, 36, in the breathtaking city of Valencia.

PRO DIVISION

VIPA PRO Division is designed for pianists/students over 18 who are currently enrolled in a college-level degree or have already completed it. Exceptions may occur, but need to be approved by the Director, based on artistic suitability.

 

At VIPA Piano PRO Division, students will have the opportunity to work with the following outstanding pianists and pedagogues:

ACTIVE VIPA PRO Division students will receive:

  • 4 individual lessons of 60’. Students can specify teacher preference. As far as possible, with the goal of providing a varied learning experience to the students, the organization will try to accommodate requests, but it’s encouraged to take lessons by as many different teachers as possible, in order to obtain the best benefit from the VIPA experience and its diversity.
  • Access to all other students’ individual lessons as auditors.
  • Full access and opportunity to participate in all workshops, seminars, lectures, and presentations taking place during the festival.
  • Opportunity to perform in one of the concerts, either in the Conservatory’s Auditorium or at the VIPA Concert Festival in Centre del Carme, a spectacular medieval cloister located in the heart of the old city of Valencia. Selection of students will be made by the faculty during the course.
  • Full access to all the concerts of VIPA Concert Festival.
  • Certificate of participation in VIPA

JUNIOR DIVISION

ACTIVE VIPA JUNIOR Division students will receive:

  • 4 individual lessons of 45’. Students can specify teacher preference. As far as possible, with the goal of providing a varied learning experience to the students, the organization will try to accommodate requests, but it’s encouraged to take lessons by as many different teachers as possible, in order to obtain the best benefit from the VIPA experience and its diversity.
  • Access to all other students’ individual lessons as auditors.
  • Full access and opportunity to participate in all workshops, seminars, lectures, and presentations taking place during the festival.
  • Opportunity to perform in one of the concerts at the Conservatory’s Auditorium. Selection of students will be made by the faculty during the course.
  • Full access to all the concerts of VIPA Concert Festival.
  • Certificate of participation in VIPA

Apply to the 2020 VIPA Piano Performance Academy

Active student PRO Division: 600€

Active student JUNIOR Division: 450€

Auditor student PRO Division: 120€

Auditor student JUNIOR Division: 90€

APPLICATION DEADLINE: May 15, 2020

DISCOUNTS:

Application and deposit paid before March 15, 2020: Discount of 30€ for active participants in both PRO and JUNIOR divisions.

Students of the “J. ITURBI” Conservatory150€ discount on tuition (either JUNIOR or PRO). Auditors FREE.

Active participants from previous VIPA editions: -50€.

To apply as an ACTIVE student, the applicants shall fill-in the Piano Performance Application Form and will make a payment of 250€ as a deposit towards the full tuition amount. The rest of the tuition will be paid on the first day of the academy.

APPLICATION MATERIALS:

All application data and materials are to be sent electronically through the Piano Performance Application Formor by email to [email protected]. VIPA supports an environment-friendly and expense-free philosophy and hopes to avoid the unnecessary use of paper products, as well as the cost of postal fees. Applications should include the following:

  • COMPLETELY FILLED APPLICATION FORM
  • CURRICULUM VITAE or RESUME (include: educational background, schools, teachers, degrees, awards, prizes, previous festivals attended, and any relevant performances and/or professional experience). Submit with a link in the application form or via email at [email protected]
  • AUDIO/VIDEO materials are not compulsory, but highly recommendable. Free choice of programme. For video materials, please send a link to YouTube, Vimeo, or similar services. For Audio, send us a link to DropBox, WeTransfer or any other file transfer system.

SELECTION PROCESS:

Applications are processed on a rolling basis, that is, in the order in which they are received. There are limited positions available, so we encourage students to apply as soon as possible.

VIPA 2020 PIANO COMPETITION

Category A: Pianists who are 10 years or younger on the beginning of the competition

Category B: Pianists who are 14 years or younger on the beginning of the competition

Category C: Pianists who are 18 years or younger on the beginning of the competition

Category D: Pianists with no age limit

PRIZES

Category A: Absolute prize

  • 100€

Category B: Absolute prize

  • 150€

Category C: Absolute prize

  • 250€

Category D: Absolute Prize

  • 350€
  • Free attendance at VIPA 2021
  • Recital in Valencia during 2020-2021 season (venue to be announced)

Besides these Absolute prizes, there will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in all other categories, for each of which a specific diploma will be issued. However, these prizes will have no economic compensation.

VIPA 2020 Piano Competition is intended to serve active VIPA students as a recognition of the work developed and artistic value of each individual. Besides age categorization, the only condition to participate is to be registered as an active VIPA student during the competition.

The Jury, composed by different personalities from the music world, reserves the right to not to award a prize, to share prize etc. All decisions of the Jury are final and not subject to appeal.

The competition will consist of one single round that will take place at the Conservatory’s Concert Hall, on Wednesday, July 8, at 15h.

The repertoire to be presented is free, and can be announced before the competition begins. However, there will be a time limitation for performance in each of the four categories:

Category A (5 minutes max.)

Category B (7 minutes max.)

Category C (10 minutes max.)

Category D (15 minutes max.)

To be admitted to take part on this competition, student applicants need to provide links to recordings (audio or video) within the application form, and it needs to be stated in the corresponding section of the application form.
